Note: Posting this here for now because this theory does contain spoilers for SHHC.
Well after watching the Bogeyman ending of SHHC there was something I realized. Double Helix is actually carrying on another type of ending, one that was first seen in Silent Hill 3. Starting at Silent Hill 3, continuing with Silent Hill Origins, and done again with Silent Hill Homecoming there are endings in which the protagonists become some sort of other entity.
In Silent Hill 3's "Possessed Ending" Heather either awakens as the God, or as her "true self."
In Origins's Travis becomes the Butcher, in the "Butcher Ending"
and In SHHC, Alex Shepherd becomes another Pyramid Head.
Amazingly each of these endings contains some similar themes.
1. Heather, Travis, and Alex are trapped in the nightmare world when their transformation happens. Heather's a lot more subtle, but the blood stained hands, and the fact that she killed Douglas are a dead give away.
2. The entities that they become represent the very things they were trying to repress. Heather was trying to repress her memories of being Alessa, and I believe that when certain conditions are met she awakens as Alessa. Possessed Heather = Heather's repressed memories of Alessa/ Heather awakened as Alessa.
Travis was also repressing his memories of his childhood, and was repressing his feelings of rage and anger towards his parents. However, by killing 100-200 monsters, Travis' rage has come out.
The Butcher (at the end of SH0) = Travis's rage, anger, and hatred towards the world.
And now Alex. Alex, who was repressing the death of his brother, also repressed the memory that he was supposed to be the sacrifice. By condemning his mother to die by the torture device, and not forgiving his father, Alex becomes in a sense a judge and executioner.
Alex as the Third Pyramid Head = Alex's judgment and condemnation for his parents.
Anyways I thought that was neat, and something I found interesting. Also makes the Bogeyman ending a lot easier to swallow.
